Good Evening, Race Report fans, from a Race Report HQ where I am currently multi-tasking between writing this report and watching the football. I’m not finding myself in he mood to come up with a bunch of puns right now…
Good Evening, Race Report fans. I help you have been enjoying the weather as much as we have been here at Race Report HQ.
Most of this week’s results come from yesterday, Saturday 22 June. We’ll kick things off with parkrun: there was a first placed finish for Becs Nkoane at one of my old stomping grounds, Canon Hill Park (great cross-country course) in a time of 20.39; Ed Wright earned himself a course PB on Littlehampton Prom (21.55); and massive congratulations to Doug King for hitting the milestone of his 250th parkrun at Gadebridge - in a time of 32.43. In the Misbourne 10k trail race, held in Great Missenden, it was a third win on the trot for Chiltern’s James Palmer (38.56), who led in new member Daire Stack in second place (39.24), and Neil Turner in their (41.10). Mark Liggins, another new member, finished in a very respectable 51.48, while Club stalwart Steve Field was first V70 in 74.46. Well done, Harriers! Meanwhile, over in Loughborough four Chiltern athletes faced off against stiff competition in the British Milers Club Grand Prix. Twins Archie and Euan Pinder took part in the 800m heats, clocking times of 1.54.12 and 1.57.87, respectively. In the 1500m events, Tom Emery came home in 3.56.98 and Leon Doran in 4.05.31. And finally, Lauren Mayot and Ben Hannen braved the heat and the hills of the Midsummer Murder trail races today. Lauren completed the 10 mile event, finishing in 1.47.44 and bagging 1st V40 for her efforts, while Ben finished the (rather long) half marathon in 2.21.08. COMING UP LOCALLY: Watford and Oxford graded open track meets, the Ridgeway Relay, Youth Development League, Last Friday of the Month 5k, the Thame 10k, English Schools Track & Field Champs, Humanity Direct Chiltern Ultra and EA Track & Field Champs. More details on these events, and more in the Club Calendar. Good Evening, Race Report fans. Well, I can’t tell you whether football is going to be coming home or not, but I have… and to some great running by Chiltern Harriers. Looking back to last weekend (8-9 June), three Chiltern athletes ran in the SEAA Champs at Eton. Mainly for U20s and Seniors, the event also includes the U15 and U17 3000m Championships. In the U15 Girls 3000m Kara Gorman ran a strong time of 10.00.95 to be third, a day after winning the Bucks Schools Junior 1500m title. In the U17 Mens’ 3000m Edward Johnson ran a PB of 9.26.22 to be fourth. And Isaac Jessop-Tranter, who qualified in a heat on Saturday, ran 1.58.93 to be seventh in the final of the U20 800m. Huge congratulations to our talented athletes and many thanks to Steve Perkin for sending though the result. Moving on to this weekend, Neil Turner finished a strong 4th in his age category at the European (Sprint) Duathlon Championships in Coimbra, Portugal, yesterday. Neil’s total time was 1.01.49 for the run-bike-run event. In the somewhat wetter surroundings of Buckinghamshire three Harriers took part in the 40th anniversary edition of the Penn 7 event yesterday. Lee Corrigan led the group home in 52.35, joined by Ed Wright (54.18) and Matt Lawrence (54.50). Meanwhile, Mike ‘Tiny’ Turney was first V60 at the Wargrave 10k in a time of 38.44. Well done, everyone! In parkrun news, congratulations are due firstly to Ian Lawson for ticking off his 100th different parkrun location at Bushy Park in a time of 20.20. There were course PBs for Matt Robins (26.01 at Gadebridge) and Giles Greenhalgh (26.58 at Church Mead); and a cluster of all-time PBs at Rickmansworth: Lenny Brooks-Klingenshmid - 19.22; Katie Royals - 19.48; and Steve Mayes - 20.13. Finally, Tom Dixon came home in 1st position at Pontypridd in a time of 17.49. A COUPLE OF REMINDERS: 1) Senior training will be meeting in Rickmansworth on Tuesday, 18 June, with opportunity to grab food and drinks afterwards at the Pennsylvanian Pub (Wetherspoons). As ever, details are in the Club Calendar. 2) Today is the last day when you can take part in the 2024 Chiltern Way consultation. This is your opportunity to tell the Club Management committee about what you do, or don’t like about the Club, covering subjects as varied as training, facilities, social and welfare. The survey only takes 10 mins to complete and will directly shape the Club’s updated Development Plan.
