Chiltern Harriers U13s and U15s had their best YDL LAG match of the season at Eton on Sunday. Having been seventh, seventh and sixth in the first three matches, Sunday saw the team a well earned fourth, with the U13 Girls being the strongest from the seven teams competing.
Mild, dry weather made for good conditions at Eton and there were many season’s bests and personal bests on show. There were also good showings from several newbies.
 
U15 Boys
Emile Morti did well at new events winning A string high jump with 1.60m and coming second in A string 200m in 23.63. Emile also came third in A string discus. Taye Awuku-Chan also had a busy day, third in A string 100m in a PB of 12.08, second in long jump with 5.18m, and second in 80m hurdles in 11.61. Aarav Johnson scored useful points in B string 100m and 200m. Colin Miles ran A string 300m and there was a PB for Raphael Tsolaki in B string. Kit Dixon and Raphael competed well in 800m, as did Isaac McCall and Jacob McCall in 1500m. Colin was second in B string 80m hurdles.
 
In the field Kit helped with B string long jump, and Isaac and Jacob looked after shot. Isaac threw B string discus, and Colin and Kit looked after javelin. The 4 x 100m team of Aarav, Emile, Jacob and Taye were a very good second, and the 4 x 300m team consisted of Aarav, Isaac, Raphael and Kit.
 
U15 Girls
There was a convincing win for Kara Gorman in 1500m A string with Mimi Daley taking care of B string. Evelyn Wildman was second in A string 800m with Maya Davis second in B string. The 300m saw a PB of 45.28 for Evelyn and Pia Walsh also ran a PB in B string to be third. Newcomers did well in the short sprints with Chaise Duff and Sophia Moore running 100m and Chaise and Amy Quick 200m. Gaia Ferraro ran A string 75m hurdles and also non-scoring 100m.
Chaise and Kara did well in long jump and Evelyn and Amy scored useful points in high jump. Anais Majekodunmi threw A string hammer and B string discus and shot. Mimi was A string discus and Amy A string shot. Maya and Kara looked after javelin. Amy, Mimi, Chaise and Sophia ran a season’s best in 4 x 100m relay, and a strong 4 x 300m team of Maya, Kara, Pia and Evelyn were third, also in a season’s best.
 
U13 Boys
As with the other matches a small team covered as much as possible, Isaac Taylor running a PB in A string 150m, coming second in 800m, and doing well in long jump. Jack Dixon also ran 800m, was B string long jump and B string javelin. Newby Nicholas Janisch was second in A string javelin with an impressive 20.50m and also did A string shot.
 
U13 Girls
The U13 Girls were the star team, finishing top of their age group. There was a double win in 1200m, Juliette MacDougall running a big PB of 3.55.65, and Bea Robinson winning B string with a PB of 4.13.27. Holly Knott was second in A string 800m, Alice Martin second in B string, and Soraya Roughton ran a PB in non-scoring. Amariah Odogwu was third in A string 75m, and ran a PB of 21.72 in 150m. Bronwen Harman ran a PB in B string 75m and Bethan Lloyd did well in B string 150m.
 
Bethan had an excellent run in 70m hurdles to be second and Holly Knott was second in B string. Bethan and Holly combined again for a double win in high jump, with PBs of 1.40m for Bethan, 1.35m for Holly. Aliyah Haigh provided another A string win in shot with 7.14m and Soraya Roughton was second in B string. Bronwen Harman was second in A string javelin with Juliette MacDougall winning B string. The 4 x 100m team of Bea, Amariah, Holly and Bethan were sixth.

Wycombe and Chiltern took part in a very exciting, close fought match at Eltham on Sunday in the third round of the Southern Athletics League.
 
The team sat in 11th place (out of 18) before the match started and there was a view that fourth or better would pretty much secure Division 1 status for 2025. However, after a few events it was clear that the match would be a close affair with the team in contention for the win.
 
The lead changed hands several times through the day and in the end the team was a narrow second behind Harrow by just three and a half points with Blackheath and Bromley in third.
 
The men’s team were light on sprinters with Ben Sharpe running100m and Marko Stankovic 200m. Marko had a busy day, winning B string 110m hurdles and fifth in A string 400m hurdles.
 
Isaac Jessop-Tranter ran a PB of 52.65 to be third in A string 400m with Joel Crook running B string. Men’s middle distance proved a good source of points with Angus Williams and Richard Slade securing a double win in 800m and Richard winning A string 1500m. Myles Caddell won A string 3000m steeplechase after second place in B string 1500m, and David Clark (in a PB of 14.56.95) and Ash Finch scored a further double win in 5000m.
 
In the field there was a double win in pole vault for Ian Parkinson and Issa Phillips-Pope. Fraser Kilsby scored well in A string throws. Ryan Wells won A string long jump, and was second in A string triple jump, fifth in A string high jump as well as a good win in A string 110m hurdles. Ed Morris did his usual sterling job of great efforts in B string 400m hurdles, long jump, high jump, triple jump, shot, discus, javelin and hammer.
 
The 4 x 100m team (David, Ben, Marko and Ryan) was fourth and the 4 x 400m team (David, Richard, Joel and Isaac) second.
 
The women had a strong sprint quartet with Anya Morzaria fourth in A string in 12.88 and Lailah Pope third in B string. Christina Poulsen won A string 200m with Lucy Clarke third in B string. Ivy Uhart worked hard in A string 400m and 800m. Liv Brown was second in A string 1500m with Zoe Doyle winning B string. Katie Royals was third in A string 300m with Ellie Shield fourth in B string. Lisa Fitpatrick scored good points in A string 100m hurdles and 400m hurdles.
 
Lisa continued her good work in the field with A string high jump and long jump, and B string triple jump. Caroline Parkinson won A string pole vault with Sarah Cross second in B string (PB of 2.90m). Sarah made her usual great contribution with B string high jump and javelin and A string triple jump. Florence Lee-Rubis made her SAL debut with B string long jump and a non-scoring 100m PB. In the throws Chloe Zmuda, Hannah Wells, Genevieve Cole (a win in B string hammer) all scored well.
 
The 4 x 100m team (Lucy, Lisa, Sarah, Christina) were second, as was the 4 x 400m team of Ivy, Liv, Zoe and Lucy.
 
The team are now up to ninth in the table and will hope to maintain that in match 4 at Dartford on August 17th.

Chisom Nwafor retained her Senior Girls long jump title, winning comfortably with a jump of 6.09m. Frankie Baxter was seventh in a straight final for the Senior Girls 1500m steeplechase. Kara Gorman made the final of the Junior Girls 1500m, finishing ninth, and Evelyn Wildman ran well in her heat. Issy Robinson ran a good race in her Intermediate Girls 800m heat, just two-hundredths off her PB. Ffion Harman raced well in her heat of the Intermediate Girls 300m hurdles.
 
Alex Hughes made the final of the Intermediate Boys 3000m, finishing tenth. Taye Awuku-Chan and Emile Morti both hit hurdles in their 80m hurdles heats, both finishing fifth and not making it to the final unfortunately.  Evelyn and Emile were part of the Junior Mixed 4 x 100m Relay team that made the final, coming seventh. Ffion led off the Inter Mixed  4 x 10m Relay team in the heat.
 
For Hertfordshire Tom Ford made the final of the Junior Boys 1500m, finishing fifth. Emily Ford was fourteenth in the Inter Girls 3000m straight final. Leon Doran was in the first heat of the Senior Boys 1500m, finishing ninth.
 
All gave a very good account of themselves in this high level environment.

Fortunately, there are loads of results for you to get your teeth into. A huge congratulations, first of all, to those Chiltern Harriers who were representing their county at the English Schools Track & Field Championships, 12 - 13 July. It is an absolutely huge achievement to even be a part of those events. Do look out for a future report from Steve Perkin to find out how they all got on.
