U15 Alden Collier and U17 Oakley Denson had a busy few days last week, featuring in two high level meetings. U15 Archie Pinder joined them at one.
On Wednesday 4th the pair made the trip to south-east London to run in the British Milers Club Regional Meeting at Eltham. Alden was in the men’s 800m C race and had a superb run to be third, improving his PB by three seconds to 1.55.88. This puts Alden way ahead in the U15 national rankings. Oakley was third in the men’s 1500m C race and also beat his previous PB by a big margin, running 4.09.35. On Saturday 7th Alden and Oakley were in the England Athletics U15/U17 Championships which this year was away from its usual home of Bedford, the venue instead being Sportcity, Manchester, the scene of Alden’s English Schools 1500m win in July. Alden again ran 1500m in a field of only four athletes but including strong local rival Gianleo Stubbs from Shaftesbury Barnet. A fast race saw Alden take his second national title in a fast time of 4.07.97. Oakley ran in one of several U17 men’s 800m heats and ran 2.00.77 to be fourth. In addition at Sportcity U15 Archie Pinder took part in a straight final of 3000m and was eighth in 9.36.14, just a second away from the PB he set earlier this season. Dave Clarke Mile Extravaganza
The Dave Clarke Mile Extravaganza saw 14 strong mile races at Wimbledon on Wednesday 28th. In addition to recording a mile time, the meeting also allowed a 1500m split to be recorded. Harry Cox ran in the second fastest race (10 of 11) and was in third at 1500m in 3.58.63 but finished well to take the race in 4.13.67. Hertfordshire County Championships Five Chiltern athletes took part on Saturday 31st at a wet Watford in the first day of the Hertfordshire Track and Field Championships. All the other Chiltern athletes tackled 800m. Tom Ford won silver in the U13 Boys race in a PB of 2.30.43. Emily Ford was in the U15 Girls race and won bronze in 2.36.13. Callum Powell was sixth in the U15 Boys race in 2.28.65, a few seconds off his PB. Berkshire County Championships U15 Dayo Akinjobi had a good day at Eton in the Berkshire Championships, coming sixth in 100m in 13.09 on Sunday August 1st after coming seventh in 200m in 27.04 the previous day, both PBs. Did you know that on this day in British history (8 August 1963) 15 men armed men carried out a robbery of £2,600,000 (mostly in used bank notes) from the Glasgow–London Royal Mail Train? The event became famous as the Great Train Robbery and took place in Buckinghamshire.
… But what was most certainly not ‘a steal’ were the hard-fought and trained-for results achieved by Chiltern Harriers runners in this week’s Race Report! Important message to all those attending our Training Sessions and those looking to do races again shortly
