Chiltern Harriers had an excellent day at the SEAA Cross Country Relays at Wormwood Scrubs on Saturday with three teams on the podium. The medals bookended the meeting with U20 Men and U17 Men both winning silvers at the start, and the Senior Men winning bronze at the end. A grey, wet start improved rapidly with later races run in sunshine. The U17 women were first off and Lydia Cross, coming back after illness, ran consistently as an incomplete team on the 3k circuit in 13.03.
The U20 Men and U17 Men ran together, with results separated at the end. The Chiltern U20s were always in the mix with Archie Pinder (9.21) and Euan Pinder (9.31) bringing the team home in fourth at the end of each leg. Leon Doran took over and ran a superb leg of 8.58 to bring the team into second, just ten seconds behind the winners. Leon’s time was second fastest of the race. Meanwhile the U17 Men’s A team had a similarly strong trio out. James Holdsworth on leg 1 ran 9.37 to finish sixth and Aidan Suleyman maintained that on leg 2 with 9.42. On a very exciting last leg there were several changes of position and Edward Johnson’s 9.27 was a great run to move up into silver. There were two other Chiltern U17 teams and the B team had a great start thanks to Callum Powell’s 9.43, followed by Jack Turner (10.32) and Rory Hilton (10.46). The Bs finished 14th. An incomplete C team featured good efforts from Zach Cleary (10.34) and Charlie De Sousa (11.21). The U13 Girls saw two Chiltern girls competing and Emilia Ingham (8.55) and Lotti Monnington (9.31) both had good runs on the shorter 2k route. The U13 Boys had two full teams, and one incomplete team. The A team did very well to be seventh thanks to Jack Rogers (7.40), Harrison Lawrence (8.02) and Zac Taylor (8.09). Issac Brown (8.00), Hector Gamblen (8.07) and Thomas Cooper (8.51) were the B team that finished 12th, and Harry Reeder (8.25) and Jack Dixon (9.31) were an incomplete C team. Nia Clarke (8.36) and Megan Lockwood (8.31) were the two U15 girls in action. The U15 Boys had an inexperienced A team out but Ben Reeder (7.34), James Henderson (7.49) and Kit Dixon (8.11) all ran well for 25th. Isaac McCall (8.19) and Jacob McCall (8.38) were an incomplete B team. For the first time Chiltern got two full Senior Men’s teams out at this event. The course was two of the 2k laps, which ended up about 4.3k, further than the usual one lap 4k circuit. Simon Bossi led off in what was by now bright sunshine. Simon’s 13.41 brought the team home in 8th and Aran Davidson kept the momentum going with 14.08 on leg 2. A few teams well up on legs 1 and 2 were incomplete so the front of the race thinned out, and Angus Williams found himself in third on leg 3. Angus’s 13.54 gave Cameron Reid a buffer. Cam ran well on leg 4 for 14.02 to hold onto bronze. The B team also did well with James Turner (14.57), Alex Aldred (14.00), Tom Dixon (15.23) and Jonny Slade (16.23) finishing 12th. Chiltern Harriers had a solid match at Keysoe Equestrian Centre in Bedfordshire on Saturday in the first match of the Chiltern League season. The club was fourth overall and there were team wins for the Veteran Men, U15 Girls and U13 Girls, and individual wins for Mike Turney (Vet 60), Edward Johnson (U17 Men) and Juliette MacDougall (U13 Girls). The Chiltern Juniors were the strongest junior club on the day, the seniors sixth. There were 62 Chiltern athletes running on the popular, undulating course around the equestrian parkland. Weather was mild but featured a couple of sharp, heavy showers. More photos from Mark Easton
There were no Chiltern U11s in action so the first race of interest was the U13 Girls. Juliette MacDougall raced to a convincing win and the victorious team was completed by Holly Knott in fifth, Emilia Ingham in 11th and Lotti Monnington in 21st. The U13 Boys put out a good team and were third on the day. Jack Rogers was ninth and there was good packing from Harrison Lawrence (13th), Zac Taylor (14th), Toby Reynolds (15th) and Isaac Brown (17th). Jack Dixon completed the team in 42nd. The U15 Girls provided another team win (joint with Milton Keynes) thanks to a great effort from the girls. Maya Davis led the team home in sixth and she was backed up by Nia Clarke in ninth, Megan Lockwood in tenth, and Carys Jones in 20th. Also running well were Lauren Dwyer in 29th and Mimi Daley in 35th. Tom Ford had a good run in a high-quality field to be second individual in the U15 Boys race, and the Chiltern team was second behind the very powerful Dacorum outfit. Other scorers were Charlie Quantrill (ninth), Max King (13th), and Logan Gaskell (16th). Also running strongly in a big team were Ben Reeder (22nd), James Henderson (30th), Felix Danielli (31st), Kit Dixon (37th), Isaac McCall (44th) and Colin Miles (45th). Completing the team were Jocelyn Davies (17th), Lara Milburn (35th), Rebecca Lawson (38th), and Ellie Gowers (40th). Another big Chiltern team featured well in the U17 men’s race with a breakthrough first league win for Edward Johnson. The other scorers were Callum Powell (ninth), James Holdsworth (12th), and Aidan Suleyman (16th) and the team was second. Also featuring were Daniel Munn (18th), Jack Turner (24th), Rory Hilton (30th), Zach Cleary (31st), Mattie Gemmell (36th), Charlie De Sousa (38th), and James Malin (48th). The Senior Men and Women completed scoring teams but were much lower on numbers than in previous years. The Senior Women had just six runners and were 13th team. All battled hard and scoring were Katie Royals (27th), Jess Orr (51st), Tessa Passey (71st), Lyndsey Bill (79th), Helen Hinde (107th) and Fiona Calder (134th). The Veteran women were 16th, Tessa, Lyndsey, Helen and Fiona completing the scoring four. The Senior Men had thirteen facing the starter and they did well to be fifth team. Aran Davidson ran strongly to be tenth and was backed up in the scoring by Alex Aldred (14th), Adam Shute (17th), Tim Lawrence (35th), Finn O’Brien (36th), James Turner (45th), Tom Dixon (55th), Mike Turney (121st), Ben Hannen (141st), and Amit Dixit (156th). Completing the team were Ed Wright (191st), and Allan Cairns (193rd). Ollie Jackson was well-placed early on but had to withdraw with a tight calf. The veteran quartet of Adam, Tim, James and Tom took the team win. Mike Turney was first Vet 60, and amongst the Vet 40s Adam was fourth and Tim ninth. The next match is at Teardrop Lakes on November 9th where the club hopes to build on a solid start. A small Chiltern Harriers contingent made the trip to Sutton Park, Sutton Coldfield on October 5th for the English Road Relay Championships. The best placed team, that all ran on the traditional 3.8k circuit, was the U17 Men who were 17th.
The U13 Girls were a respectable 26th thanks to Bea Robinson (15.30), Annie-Rose Quantrill (16.49) and Emilia Ingham (16.29). The U13 boys were also 26th courtesy of Jack Rogers (14.36), Harrison Lawrence (15.32) and Zac Taylor (15.34). Maya Davis led off the U15Girls with 14.54 and was followed by Carys Jones (17.51) and Megan Lockwood (16.06). The U15 Boys were 32nd thanks to Tom Ford (12.33), Luke Coultate (16.15) and Charlie Quantrill (13.27). Alex Hughes led off the U17 Men’s team and was fifth on leg 1 in 11.57. Callum Powell (12.57) and James Holdsworth (12.33) steered the team to 17th place overall. Issy Robinson ran first leg in an incomplete U17 Women’s team. |
