It was a very enjoyable edition of the Bran Tub Relay on Sunday with sixty athletes of all ages enjoying the festive road race over the traditional 1450 metres route round Devonshire Avenue, Chesham Road and Hervines Road. Sue Slade and her large band of helpers created a well-run and exciting event. Many thanks to those that marshalled, helped with results and refreshments, and also all those supporters for creating a great atmosphere. The team captains line up was probably the strongest ever, and the course record was duly beaten. An amazing eleven athletes ran sub-4 minutes on the first leg. The winners were the Pink team captained by Cameron Reid, completing the six legs in a brisk 27.28. Joining Cam in the victorious quintet were Jacob McCall, Issy Robinson, Jess Orr and James Henderson. The Green team finished second with Richard Slade, Oli Atkinson, Charlie De Sousa, Alice Brown, and Isaac Taylor combining well. Third place went to James Holdsworth’s Yellow team which also featured James Malin, Maya Davis, Annie-Rose Quantrill and Charlie Yeoh.
The first leg saw a big dust up amongst some of the club’s strongest athletes and the fastest first lap times were comfortably quicker than later laps. Harry Cox won out in 3.41, a course record by an amazing twelve seconds. Close behind were Leon Doran (3.46), Alex Aldred (3.50), Richard Slade (3.51), Euan Pinder (3.52), Cameron Reid (3.54), Tom Ford (3.55), Isaac Jessop-Tranter (3.56), James Holdsworth (3.57), Aidan Suleyman (4.11), Charlie Quantrill (4.14) and Tom Dixon (4.20). The first five were all under the old record. Amongst the girls, Evelyn Wildman was a couple of seconds off Holly Henderson’s record of 4.35, and there were strong efforts from Issy Robinson (4.48), Alex Whitfield (4.48), Soraya Lockwood (4.50), Maya Davis (4.52), and Emily Ford (5.01).
