Chiltern Cross Country League - Match 2 at Teardrop Lakes, Milton Keynes

11/11/2024

PictureU17 Men's Team
There was another solid performance from Chiltern Harriers at the second Chiltern League match at Teardrop Lakes, Milton Keynes on Saturday. There was a slightly improved turnout (68) on match 1, and the juniors again proved the best performing club on the day. This was especially impressive as several athletes had competed in the ESAA Schools Cup meeting at Stowe the previous day.

The courses were mostly flat apart from the short sharp hills, and the surface was soft but didn’t deteriorate too badly through the afternoon.

Chiltern had no U11 girls but Kit Reynolds made a good debut to be13th in the U11 Boys race.

The U13 Girls took a second team win, led home by impressive winner, Juliette MacDougall. The other scorers were Holly Knott in sixth, Annie-Rose Quantrill 12th and Emilia Ingham 13th. Also contributing well were Lotti Monnington in 22nd and Mala Bahia in 48th.

Toby Reynolds was first Chiltern runner home in the U13 Boys race in ninth, and there was good packing from Isaac Brown 12th, Hector Gamblen 13th, and Zac Taylor 21st to score. Harry Reeder was 27th and Jack Dixon 48th. Jack Rogers was well placed early in the race but had to drop out. The team were third on the day and are third overall.

It was pleasing to see the small but talented U15 Girls team running. All four scorers had run hard at Stowe the previous day but put in a great performance on Saturday to be the winning team and establish a small lead over Milton Keynes overall. Maya Davis was third, Nia Clarke sixth, Evelyn Wildman 8th and Megan Lockwood 11th. Also featuring were Carys Jones in 32nd and Mimi Daley in 37th.

Tom Ford took an excellent win in the U15 Boys race and was backed up by Charlie Quantrill in ninth, Max King in 16th and Ben Reeder in 17th. James Henderson was close behind in 18th and the good-sized team was completed by Colin Miles (31st), Isaac McCall (37th), Kit Dixon (42nd), Raphael Tsolaki (43rd), and Jacob McCall (44th). The team were second on the day and remain second overall.

A small Junior Women’s team ran well for third - Emily Ford fifth, Issy Robinson ninth and Jocelyn Davies 25th. Ellie Gowers was 44th. The girls remain third overall.

Another team that did well despite several running on Friday was the U17 Men. Edward Johnson had a great run to be third, James Holdsworth 14th, Daniel Munn 16th, and Aidan Suleyman 20th. James Malin was 32nd, Charlie De Sousa 33rd and Mattie Gemmell 39th. The team was second on the day and the lads are second overall.

The small Senior Women’s team had an improved showing with Katie Royals (37th) and Jess Orr (49th) returning to lead the team in. Also scoring were Roxie Jones (54th), Abi Askey (80th), Sue Slade, making her league debut, (94th), and Tamsin Finch (138th). Fiona Calder was 160th. The team were 13th and hold 13th league-to-date. The Vet foursome of Abi, Sue, Tamsin and Fiona were 15th.

The Senior Men had a different, but equally strong, team out compared to match 1 and were fourth on the day, remaining fourth overall. Richard Slade had a good battle to take the individual win and further scoring came from Aran Davidson (17th), Cameron Reid (22nd), Ollie Jackson (25th), Adam Shute (32nd), Tim Lawrence (34th), James Turner (43rd), Jonny Slade (113th), Mike Turney (124th) and Alan Crozier (161st). A much bigger team than the one at Keysoe was completed by Ben Hannen (168th), Tom Robinson (169th), Amit Dixit (171st), Toby Radbourne (172nd), Frank Gaymond (192nd), David De Sousa (222nd), Ed Wright (228th), Glen Martin (231st), and Allan Cairns (242nd).

The Vet Men (Adam, Tim, James and Mike) were second and stay in the lead in their category. Mike was first Vet 60, and Adam and Tim sixth and eighth Vet 40s.

The third match is not far away on November 30th at Luton where the club hopes to move up into an overall podium position.
