It’s Autumn racing season, and things have been busy! There have been some fantastic performances across the club over the past couple of weeks. The action started in Australia, where Angus Williams took on the Sydney Marathon on 29 August, clocking an excellent 2:52:16. The following weekend saw a strong club turnout at The Big Half in London on 6 September. Daire Stack led the way with a rapid 1:13:50, while Dominic Baker ran 1:26:29. Ali Young not only recorded a superb 1:34:17, but also finished second in her category. Tim Margetts crossed the line in 1:36:50, Christine Taylor finished in 1:53:13, and Simac Konkader celebrated a successful half marathon debut with a sub-two of 1:57:03. On 5 September, Ben Hannen tackled the St Albans Stamped 12-Hour Enduro, covering an impressive 44 miles (if my memory serves, I can’t find the results online). This weekend brought more success. We’ll begin with the iconic Great North Run. Caroline Stephens broke the two-hour barrier with 1:59:26, while Maik Barrett completed the course in 2:35:20. Sarah Barrett finished in 3:48:10, and apparently celebrated her first experience of running over a "proper" bridge in the process! Over in Hampshire, Tim “Look-It’s-A-Race” Margetts was back in action at the New Forest Marathon, completing the course in 4:05:12 despite a really tough day at the office. Ultra-distance honours go to Chris Pitkin, who took on the Thames Path Challenge on 12 September. Running from Hampton Court to Henley, Chris covered 45 miles in a remarkable 8:57:46 (Strava time). Meanwhile, at the wonderfully eccentric Bacchus Wine Half Marathon, Hayley Langan combined marathon preparation with wine tasting en route. Taking in six wine stops and some brutal hills, Hayley finished in 3:05:39 as part of her build-up to the Yorkshire Marathon. Away from the race circuit, there were also two notable parkrun milestones. Congratulations to everyone graduating from Roger's 5-10k training plan at Rickmansworth, and special mention to Harriet Lemon, who celebrated her 200th parkrun at Church Mead. There were PBs aplenty to round off a brilliant weekend for the club. COMING UP LOCALLY: Last Friday of the Month 5k, our very own Shardeloes 10k, SEAA Rad Relays, Windsor Half Marathon, the kick-off of this year’s Chiltern League season, second Sunday 5 and the re-arranged Hardwicke X-Stream (from our lovely friends at Bearbrook). Check out these events and more on the Club Calendar. REMEMBER: got something for Race Report? Send it to me at [email protected] . My social-media-stalking skills do have limitations.
