Well, Race Report fans, it’s that Red Letter Day – London Marathon Day. And, as ever, Chiltern Harriers did not disappoint. It’s hard to know where to start, but special shout-outs must be due to David Walker and Barbara Ralph. David is one of that very rare breed: an ever-present, meaning he has completed every single London Marathon. Barbara – if memory serves – is the woman who has completed the most London Marathons. David opted for the virtual MyWay event, as he has for the last few years. He has finished, but his time is currently unavailable on the site. Barbara pounded round the 26.2 miles of London tarmac in a time of 5.49.28. From the most London Marathons to the least, Katie Royals has her marathon debut today and delivered a first-class performance. She kept consistent the whole way round to come home in 3.19.53. Seconds ahead in time, if not on the road, was Tom Dixon in 3.19.28. Tom is now an official World Record Holder. He is the fastest man to complete a marathon in full cricket kit and raised valuable funds to get more people access to sport in the process.
Nick Hughes earned himself a PB and was 1st in his age category (no mean feat!) in a time of 2.39.15. However, even that lightning pace wasn’t quite enough to win him the accolade of fastest Harrier on the day. That mention goes to Aran Davidson, in 2.37.31, followed most rapidly by Adam Shute in 2.38.49, and joining them in an illustrious sub-3 club were Alistair Melville-Smith (2.54.43) and Max Poplawski (2.40.14). Also making their way around the streets of London were: Dom Baker (3.07.49 – course PB); Stephen Didcott (4.29.03); Lucy Dunbar (6.14.45); Kevin Franklin (4.22.27); Stuart Henderson (4.19.08); Mairead O’Rourke (3.27.51); Kristin Robinson (3.30.00); Stephen Sprod (4.17.21); and Ali Young (3.21.37). Meanwhile, for some it wasn’t enough to just run 26.2 miles, they did the route in reverse and starting at midnight! Ben Hannen did just that, clocking a Strava time of 4.46.06, as did Tim Margetts (just one week after the Krakow marathon) in a Strava time of 5.08.40, and Louise Whyte (hot on the heels of Manchester) – 6.43.09. What a truly brilliant day for the Club. Meanwhile, up in Stratford-upon-Avon, Rebecca Lawson completed her half marathon debut (running with Dad, Ian). Both finished in a very respectable 1.59.29 on an undulating course. PARISH NOTICES FOR EARLY MAY
