Chiltern Harriers were still out in force across a range of events, collecting podium places, age-group victories and some impressive performances. Misbourne 10K – 20 June With no major competition to contend with (she says), Jenny Bizley was able to take the win at the Misbourne 10K on Saturday morning, crossing the line in 51:18. Helen Hinde was also in action, finishing in 1:07:21, while Jack Turner produced an excellent run to take second male overall in a speedy 41:53. A big thank you also goes to Doug Smith and Mike Shrive, who helped with the results on the day. Events simply couldn't happen without volunteers. Talking of which... #NoOfficialsNoRaces Would you like to make a real difference to our sport? The Club is keen to encourage more members to become Level 1 Endurance Officials. The qualification requires only a three-hour online course, with the Club covering the cost. Once qualified, you'll be able to help at events such as the Shardeloes 10K, Pednor races, Chiltern League fixtures and many more. For further information, speak to Sue Slade or email me (details below). Comrades Marathon – 14 June Last weekend saw the 99th running of the legendary Comrades Marathon in South Africa, the world's oldest and largest ultramarathon. The 55-mile race alternates direction each year and 2025's edition was an "up run", taking competitors from Durban to Pietermaritzburg. Representing Chiltern Harriers, and once again proving he's made of exceptionally stern stuff, Ian Lawson completed the challenge in 11:04:36. Ian was the sole Harrier among more than 50 runners from local namesakes Chiltern AC. This year they invited him to their pasta party before the race, and it was fantastic to see this photo appear on WhatsApp. St Albans Summer Solstice 10K – 19 June Friday evening brought warm conditions and an 8pm start for the St Albans Summer Solstice 10K, with much of the flat course following the Alban Way. Graham Collett finished in an impressive 40:12 and claimed first place in the M50 category. Meanwhile, Get Going Runner Cat Cozens continued her excellent progress with a strong 1:11:44 finish. On the subject of midsummer Our very own Tim Margetts ventured up to Tromsø, Norway, 350km inside of the Arctic Circle to complete the Midnight Sun Marathon. Considering he's sleep-deprived due to the white nights, he clocked a brilliant time of 3.32.29. Cliveden Classic 10K – 20 June The picturesque but challenging Cliveden Classic 10K attracted a strong Harriers turnout on Friday evening. Leading the way was Charlie Quantrill, who finished seventh overall in 44:26 and was first U20 male. Mark Nicholas followed in 47:14, with Ben Hannen clocking 49:30 and finishing fifth M50. Andy Hickman dipped under 55 minutes with 54:48, while Stephen Sprod broke the hour mark in 58:59. Among the women, Rebecca Lawson produced an excellent run to finish second U20 female in 1:01:31. Caroline Stephens completed the course in 1:04:04, Andrew Channer in 1.01.38 and Harriet Lemon followed in 1:06:33. Tamsin Finch rounded out the Harriers contingent with 1:16:58. Shout outs to former Harriers: Richard Quantrill - 47:15; Brian Dent - 1.03.00; Shaheen Dent - 1.25.06.
