Good Evening, Race Report fans from a most Autumnal September evening. (Wake me up when it ends… yes, I really do make that reference every year.) We’ve a few results to catch up on from the last few weeks. We’ll kick things off with the Henley River Half Marathon and 10k. A trail race, it was the 10k debut for U17 James Henderson, who came home in a brilliant 4th place in a time of 39.02, and only (just) beaten by teammate Jack Turner (U20) in 3rd - 38.42. Meanwhile, in the Half Marathon, Chris Lindeque clocked a time of 1.57.09. Last weekend was a weekend for trail marathons. Mark Nicholas took on the Shere 42k. Described as a rewarding trail marathon with 1,300m elevation, covering some of the best viewpoints in the (Surrey Hills) area, Mark abbreviated that to ‘brutal climbs’. Despite that, he managed an extremely respectable 4.36.37.
Glen Martin took on the iconic Jungfrau Marathon on 6 September - a mountain marathon in the Swiss Alps, which takes in 6,407 ft of climb (1,900m) and views of the famous Eiger and Jungfrau mountains. Glen did brilliantly to come home in 6.19.22, and still be able to walk. (Indeed he was spotted running Church Mead parkrun yesterday! Just when you thought he had had enough of hills…) In a very hot Romania James Andrews was in action in the 40th Budapest Half Marathon on 7 September, clocking a time of 2.07.36. SAVE THE DATE: Chiltern Harriers AC’s inaugural (as far as I know) Quiz! 15 November at Chesham Cricket Club. Friends and family welcome. You’ve got to be in it, to win it… COMING UP LOCALLY: SEAA Road Relays at Aldershot, Last Friday of the Month 5k, the Shardeloes Trail 10k (!), Windsor Half Marathon and the Abbot’s Langley Tough 10k. Check out details of these races, and more on our calendar. ABLE TO HELP AT SHARDELOES? If you’re not running on 28 September, and are available, please help! Reach out to Trevor Davies and Beth Lang to help on the day, or Tessa Passey to help out with set-up. Comments are closed.
