The Wycombe and Chiltern composite team had a great match at Basingstoke on Saturday in the first match of the season. In a busy, high-quality match the team finished third behind league athletics behemoths, Thames Valley Harriers and Harrow AC, and ahead of hosts Basingstoke and Mid-Hants, Chelmsford, and Blackheath and Bromley. Kieran Shah and Kai Tin Fung Man looked after the short sprints and James Twallin and Tom Jordan 400m. Alex Aldred was third in A string 800m and Rowan Fuss fourth in B string. Myles Caddell and Scott Penney ran well in 1500m, and David Clarke was second in A string, and Aran Davidson first in B string, in a slow and tactical 5000m. Charlie Ogilvie and Jonny Slade ran well as non-scorers in the 5000m. Ryan Wells won 110m hurdles with Marko Stankovic fourth in B string. Marko was third in 400m hurdles. Myles Caddell and Dan Cogan were third in A string B string respectively in a gruelling 3000m steeplechase. In the field, Fraser Kilsby and Ryan Wells had a busy day. Fraser tackled shot, javelin, hammer, triple jump and high jump, and Ryan did well in discus, hammer, high jump, long jump, and triple jump. Oliver Dorrell threw 42.08m to be fourth in a very strong javelin competition, Ed Morris was second in B string shot and discus, and Issa Phillips-Pope and Ian Parkinson were third in A string and B string pole vault respectively. Jack Wallwork was second in B string long jump. The 4 x 100m team of Kai Tin Fung Min, Ryan Wells, Josh Parry, and Kieran Shah was fourth, and the 4 x 400m team of Jordan Browne, Alex Aldred, Tom Jordan and James Twallin was fifth. Women Lailah Pope, Lisa Fitzpatrick, and Cerys Vico did well in short sprints, Cerys and Amy Hogbin were third and second in A string and B string 400m respectively. In-form Evelyn Wildman won 800m A string in a PB and ESAA qualifier of 2.13.68. Zoe Doyle was second in B string and was fourth in A string 1500m later, where Charlote Docwra was third in B string and Jess Orr ran well in non-scoring. Soraya Lockwood and Katie Royals both ran PBs in a hot 3000m, with Soraya fifth in A string, Katie second in B string. Ivy Uhart was third in 2000m steeplechase. Florence Lee-Rubis was fourth in 100m hurdles and added third in A string javelin and fourth in A string long jump. Lisa scored good points in B string 100m hurdles and A string 400m hurdles. Lisa’s contribution continued with first in B string long jump, and third in A string triple jump. Caroline Parkinson was second in A string pole vault with Sarah Cross taking the win in B string. Sarah had a busy day which also included A string high jump, B string triple jump, and B string javelin. Evelyn helped out with sixth in A string shot, and Amy was sixth in A string discus. The 4 x 100m relay team of Sarah, Lisa, Florence and Lailah were narrowly second, both leading teams recording 51.42. The 4 x 400m relay took a notable win in 4.04.31. The team consisted of Amy, Evelyn, Zoe and Cerys. The next match at Kingston on June 22nd in the round robin format features Basingstoke (our paired team), Epsom and Ewell, Woking, London Heathside, and the Ipswich and Colchester composite.
