The Wycombe and Chiltern composite team made a good start to the YDL season with third place from five at Winchester on Sunday. This will be last season where U17s and U20s will compete together, next year seeing a change in age group boundaries.
There were 19 Wycombe and 11 Chiltern athletes taking part. Highlights were English School qualifying performances from Emile Morti in both 100m hurdles and 400m hurdles, and Evelyn Wildman in 1500m steeplechase. U20 Men Finn Walsh looked after 100m and 200m A string, gaining a season’s best 12.03 in the hundred. Tom Jordan was B string 200m and ran 55.93 in A string 400m with Jack Turner in B string. Joel Crook and Rory Crichton both dipped under 2.20 in 800m and Jack Turner ran a PB of 4.39.15 in 1500m. Dan Cogan was the sole competitor in 2000m steeplechase, getting a PB of 8.24. Dan also helped in long jump, triple jump and shot. U20 Women Lailah Pope was third in both 100m and 200m and was supported by Yasmin Warnes in 200m. Yasmin ran 400m A string with Ivy Uhart B string. Ffion Harman ran a 400m hurdles PB of 68.34 to be second and Aoife McAuley won javelin, was second in 100m hurdles in a PB of 16.95 and was second in high jump in 1.55m, also a PB. Ivy Uhart won 1500m steeplechase in 6.30. Lyla Griffin had a busy day, scoring good points in shot, discus and hammer. The mixed 4 x 400m team of Jack Turner, Darasimi Olowoloba, Evelyn Wildman and Issy Robinson were third in A string in 4.21, and the team of Dan Cogan, James Henderson, Aoife McAuley and Ivy Uhart second in B string in 4.28. U17 Men Jack Wallwork and Findley Hallett ran 100m. Emile Morti won 200m in 23.26, again good support coming from Findley. Darasimi Olowoloba and Joel Crook ran well in 400m, and Leo Bray in 2.06.57 and Ben Reeder in 2.16.22 both ran 800m PBs. More PBs came in 1500m from James Henderson 4.43.20 and Eddie O’Brien 4.43.70. Emile Morti had a great day scoring a PB and English Schools qualifier in 400m hurdles in 57.02 and followed this with a PB and another ESAA time of 13.50 in 100m hurdles. Jack Wallwork and Ben Reeder looked after long jump and Darasimi won triple jump in a PB 10.47m. Rory Crichton helped in shot and the 4 x 400m relay team of Leo, Joel, Rory and Ben were fourth. U17 Women Sara Moszczyska and Eva Carsberg looked after the short sprints, Eva winning 200m B string. Abi Masters and Sorcha McAuley ran well in 300m, and Freya Randall and Chaise Duff took on 800m. Sophie Bell ran 1500m. Evelyn Wildman and Issy Robinson took a double win in 1500m steeplechase, Evelyn having a great outing to run 5.13.68, an English Schools qualifier, and Issy running 5.29.76. They currently lie second and seventh in the national rankings. In the field Gabrielle Pope and Chaise Duff long jumped, Freya Randall did triple jump, and Evelyn Wildman and Genevieve Cole did shot. Genevieve was impressive in hammer with 41.03m. Rose Goding competed well, third in both javelin and discus. The second match is Sunday May 25th at Woking where the team can hopefully build on a good first outing. Comments are closed.
