Notice is hereby given that an Extraordinary General Meeting of Chiltern Harriers Athletic Club will be held in the Rear Hall, Broadway Baptist Church, 78 The Broadway, Chesham, HP5 1AH on Tuesday 14 October 2025, commencing at 8.15pm. This meeting is being held to approve changes to the Chiltern Harriers Athletic Club Constitution.
Following a review of the Club’s legal structure Chiltern Harriers Management Committee Athletic Club (CHAC) have applied to the HMRC for status as a Community Amateur Sports Club. Following their review, HMRC requires changes in the club constitution. Details of the changes to the Constitution are included in the Briefing Note at the bottom of this notice and will be explained in more detail at the EGM. Members at this meeting will be requested to vote on the Resolution that the changes to the Constitution requested by HMRC and tabled at this meeting are approved. There are no other agenda items to be discussed. ******************* BRIEFING NOTE ********************* Following a review of its legal structure Chiltern Harriers Athletic Club (CHAC) have applied to the HMRC for status as a Community Amateur Sports Club. The two main advantages of this status are: - tax relief on income and capital gains tax; - the ability to claim gift relief on donations. Following their review, HMRC requires changes to the following paragraphs in the club constitution: 3. Objectives - clarification of main purpose; “The main purposes of the club are to provide facilities , which may be owned, leased or rented by the Club for and to promote participation in the amateur sport of athletics” 6. Membership - clarification of non-discrimination with respect to membership and the associated appeals process if membership refused; “Membership of the Club shall be open to anyone interested in the sport on application, regardless of sex, age, disability, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, religion or other beliefs except as necessary consequence of the requirements of Athletics. The Club may have different classes of membership and subscription on a non-discriminatory and fair basis. The Club will keep subscriptions at levels that will not pose a significant obstacle to people participating. Under CASC rules this is currently defined as £520 per annum. The Club Committee may refuse membership, or remove it, only for just cause such as contact conduct or character likely to bring the Club all sport into disrepute. Appeal against refusal or removal may be made to the Membership secretary. Upon receipt of an appeal, an Appeal committee will be formed from members of the club. No person previously involved in the decision to refuse or remove membership may be part of any Appeal Committee.” 13. Finance - confirmation of the non-profit making status of the club; “Non profit making - All surplus income or profits are to be reinvested in the Club. No surpluses or assets will be distributed to members or third parties.” 22. Dissolution – clarification of where assets are distributed upon dissolution. “Upon dissolution of the Club any remaining assets shall be given or transferred to another registered CASC, a registered charity or the sport’s governing body for use by them in related community sports.” Comments are closed.
