Nick Hughes’s group, aided by some coaches and parents, inserted some competition into the current fallow athletics environment by running a virtual 1k relay race. Teams were made up of five runners and there were thirteen complete teams. Each runner ran a 1k route either on grass or road and were timed by someone from their household. Those on it were able to use data from the Strava app. Many runners in the club are keeping their running going on an individual basis, aided by guidance from coaches, and it was great to see athletes laying down some times and putting their training into practice. The winning team featured Isaac Jessop-Tranter (3.08), Lesedi Nkoane (3.19), Lucy Wilkinson (3.19), Izzy Martin (3.34) and Nia Clarke (3.45). See full RESULTS
Individually the fastest time was run by Thomas Askey with 2.50. Close on his virtual heels were Zoe Gilbody (2.57), Alden Collier (2.58), Oakley Denson (3.04), Euan Pinder (3.07), Archie Pinder (3.07), Issac (3.08), Leon Doran (3.08), Max Baxter (3.08), and Alex Hughes (3.10). Other girls running well included Maddie Hughes (3.13), Frankie Baxter (3.15), Ellie Shield (3.26), Lily Jessop-Tranter (3.27) and Marea Logan (3.29). Amongst the adults Stuart Clarke and Tom Dixon shared top billing on 3.11 and fastest adult woman was Bex Nkoane on 3.23 with Sarah Quantrill (3.35) and Becky McCall (3.42) not far behind. Following on from the 1k Relays, a Virtual 2k Relays is currently in the competition stage with a whopping 25 teams (125 athletes) taking part from Nick’s group, Steve’s group, Brian’s group, and the senior group.
