Chiltern Harriers youngsters took part in the first big event of the autumn season at Rushmoor Arena, Aldershot on Saturday. It was the first time a road relay event has taken place in Aldershot since 2015 and it was nice to be back at this excellent venue. It was a cool, still but sunny day so good conditions. There was good competition from some of the best endurance clubs in the south and the Chiltern teams did well to have each ‘A’ team in the top twelve. The first race off was the U17 Men and the Chiltern trio was led off by Archie Pinder who completed the 4.6k course in 14.57 to bring the team home in 9th. Tom Redmond took over and ran a good leg of 14.49 to move to 6th and Isaac Jessop-Tranter completed the team with a 15.34 leg to end up 7th. Chiltern’s B team did well courtesy of Leon Doran (15.46), Max Baxter (16.21) and Ash Finch (15.45) to be 17th and the incomplete C team of Euan Pinder (15.59) and Matt Evans (15.49) also ran strongly. There were 35 complete teams.
The U17 Women started straight after the men and this was Chiltern’s highest placing of the day. On the same 4.6k course Maddie Hughes ran well be second after the first leg with a good time of 16.34. Ellie Shield (18.14) and Frankie Baxter (17.12) completed a fine effort to be fourth team. Maddie’s leg was sixth fastest of the race. The B team of Lesedi Nkoane (18.56), Hannah Ashby (20.05) and Marea Logan (19.26) did well to be 23rd. The Under 15 girls were next up on a shorter 3k circuit and Chiltern fielded three full teams. The A team was twelfth and featured good runs from Lily Jessop-Tranter (11.50), Marlie Nkoane (11.27), and Emily Ford (11.41). The B team was 18th thanks to Lucy Wilkinson (11.53), Olivia Clarke (11.41) and Izzy Martin (11.59). And the C team ended up 33rd with Issy Robinson (12.05), Rebecca Lawson (12.30) and Lydia Cross (14.03) running well. Alex Hughes led off for the Under 15 boys and ran a strong leg to bring the team in third in 9.45. James Holdsworth (10.42) and Callum Powell (10.34) also performed well and the team finished 7th. The B team of Isaac Collier (10.58), Soren Fox (12.11) and Aidan Suleymen (10.51) were 35th. The Under 13 girls were 6th with Evelyn Wildman (12.15), Kara Gorman (10.53) and Maya Davis (11.49) all doing well. Kara was the sixth fastest leg of the race. The B team of Nia Clarke (12.24), Carys Jones (13.48) and Megan Lockwood (13.15) were 21st. Chiltern’s interest in the meeting was completed by the Under 13 boys who kept up the high standards with a sixth placed finish. Tom Ford ran well for fourth on leg 1 in 10.43, with Charlie Quantrill (11.05) on leg 2 and Jack Martin (11.30) on leg 3 completing the team. The B team: Jacob McCall (11.44), Kit Dixon (12.01) and Isaac McCall (11.49) was 17th, and the C team: Felix Danielli (11.53), Luke Coultate (12.21) and Lenny Brooks-Klingenschmid (11.39) was 24th.
