And what a great week it’s been for running. However, before we get into the running, let’s celebrate the awesome achievement of Tim Dawson and Victoria Lucas. They walked 100 miles to the coast (Christchurch, to be precise) to raise money to help beat prostate cancer - an illness affecting 1 in 8 men in the UK. If you’d like to support their cause, visit Tim’s page here.

It’s a relatively quiet mid-August report for you this time. But that is made up for by the sheer enormity and awesome-ness of our friend Ash Holmes’ achievement in the legendary Squamish 50 mile in Vancouver, Canada. Ash clocked a total (strava) time of 11.24.09 for some 10,000ft of climb in an absolutely beautiful part of the world yesterday. Well done, Ash! Roger Ellerby is running a half marathon training plan for the senior training group. The Tuesday speed and strength sessions will take place at the same time and location as the normal Tuesday training sessions. You can find the training plans below.
Good Evening, Race Report fans. If you’re observant, you’ll have spotted that you’ve already heard from me this evening… and, if you’re going to be observant, then I suggest you check your email ;-)
Good evening, Race Report Fans. Thank goodness it stopped raining. I’ve put a halt on the ark that I’d ordered and the cat has ventured back out into the world.
South Bucks had a great result at the final YDL Upper Age Group match at Perivale on Sunday, winning a close fought contest in very challenging heavy rain. The match began in reasonable conditions but by three o’ clock heavy rain meant that all steeplechase races and triple jump had to be cancelled.
South Bucks won on 626 points with Portsmouth/Winchester and 603 and Brighton on 578. The deciding factor was officials with South Bucks scoring 28 more points than Portsmouth/Winchester in that category. After four matches Portsmouth/Winchester won the division on 26 points with Brighton and South Bucks both on 23 from the seven teams involved. The team had by far their best turnout of the year (forty-four athletes) and there were some great performances despite the weather. RESULTS POWER OF 10 RESULTS U17 Women The U17 Women have been the strongest part of the team all season and Sunday was no exception. Olivia Edwards and Lailah Pope ran well in short sprints, third in all four races. Lucy Wilkinson tackled her first 300m in two years and predictably ran a big PB to be third in 44.53. Ffion Harman and Ellen Taylor did well in 80m hurdles and there was a double win in 300m hurdles from Ffion and Florence Lee-Rubis. Rebecca Lawson was unlucky to have both her events, triple jump and steeplechase, cancelled but was able to have a good run in non-scoring 800m. Florence was third in long jump with a strong 5.08m and Mila Luker was second in B string. Yasmin Warnes was second in high jump and Charlotte Hewson won the B string. Ellen Taylor and Melody Ball looked after shot and Jasmine Smith and Ellen discus. Melody was third in A string hammer with Jasmine winning the B string. Melody was also second in A string javelin with Ffion second in B string. The 4 x 100m team of Lailah, Olivia, Lily and Mila was a good second in 54.61, and the 4 x 300m team of Ffion, Yasmin, Florence and Lucy took a great win with a season’s best 3.02.47. Andrew Partridge made a good contribution winning A string hammer, B string shot and javelin and third in A string discus. This has been a good season for the South Bucks composite with two third places, a second and a win. A lot of hard work has gone into putting the matches on from host clubs, officials, team managers, coaches and parent helpers. The league continues to be a great place for all the track and field disciplines to come together and for athletes to be part of a team. |
