Important message to all those attending our Training Sessions and those looking to do races again shortly
We know some of you have still not renewed your membership for the current year. It is important for you, and important for the club, as the Insurance cover for incidents that occur in training with the club only applies to fully paid up club members. If you are not sure if you have paid, you can check with Tamsin Finch at: [email protected] Please note we are only offering one Group session on a Tuesday evening until further notice, but there will be something for those who want to test their speed as well as something for those concentrating on endurance. There are 5 Thursday night Track sessions remaining. But they will now need to start at 7pm in order to reach a safe conclusion in the light. With a new booking system introduced by MT School, we have no choice but to increase the cost per athlete for each of these 5 sessions to £3 per athlete per session to ensure that Mike is not out of pocket at the end of September. Tuesday 31 August - Session 1 - Speed Endurance session at Westwood Park, Little Chalfont ready for the warm up at 7.00pm with Ali Young and Mike Shrive. Parking at Westwood Park Car Park, or sensitively on the surrounding roads. Limited to 36 people. You must use the booking system and comply with the Covid Risk Assessment. Ideal training for our Shardeloes 10km event on 19 September. Thursday 2 Sept - Session 2 - Merchant Taylors School, Moor Park. Track Training with Mike Shrive *ready for warm up at 6.55*. The athletes will naturally split into small even pace groups to make it a safe and effective session. Due to increased fees imposed by MT School, the cost has to rise to £3 per session for each athlete so that Mike is not out of pocket during our winter recess from the track. Limited to 28 athletes. You must use the booking system and comply with the Covid Risk Assessment. 1. Athletes must go to this link and check that there are places available at their preferred session(s) - check the number, NOT the percentage of people opted to attend. If you are the first person you will not see any responses. 2. Athletes will then need to go to this link to then register their intention and ensure that they have read the COVID19 Risk Assessment. PLEASE NOTE: the COVID-19 Risk Assessment has been amended for current guidance and change in location so you must have another look at it. Well, it’s certainly been a busy Bank Holiday weekend for Chiltern Harriers AC, with huge success for Club runners at parkrun events on Saturday 28 August. In what I think must be unprecedented domination, Chiltern’s ladies took 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th places at Black Park!
Longer term members will recall that in the past the Club were accredited by Clubmark run by Sport England/England Athletics which was regarded as the gold standard for the governance of sports clubs. Our governing body, England Athletics no longer participate in Clubmark and have introduced their own guidance - Club Standards. The committee took the decision to follow the lead of our own governing body as their system is more relevant to our club.
We are therefore in a transition period between the two and as a start the Committee have adopted The England Athletics Club Standards protocols and also The Club Safeguarding Code of Conduct, both of which are now available on the web site under About and then Codes and Forms. These set out high level aspirations which introduce more detailed and specific guidance on a wide variety of governance issues the detail of which the committee will be seeking to introduce by stages. In the interim the original Clubmark procedures (available to view on the web site) remain in place. A strong turnout of twenty-three Chiltern athletes ran in the third, and penultimate, Watford open of the season on Wednesday. Conditions were grey, but mild and still so very good for fast times.
Although the end of the season approaches, there were some very good runs and a pleasantly surprising number of sixteen PBs. 400m Alice Brown (U17) and Isaac Jessop-Tranter (U15) both made their debuts at the event. Both did well, Alice running strongly in race 2 for 63.59 and Isaac setting a good benchmark in race 4 of 55.52. 1500m Race 1 U13 Hugo Mundy made his 1500m debut with a good run of 5.21.14 to be fifth. Race 2 U15 Olivia Clarke ran 5.14.42 for a new PB. U13 Marlie Nkoane ran well for a new best of 5.19.88 and U13 Lydia Cross made a good debut at the event with 5.25.38. Race 3 Fast improving U13 James Holdsworth ran positively for a big new best time of 5.02.40. U15 Emily Ford was a little outside her best with 5.13.56. Race 4 U15 girls Lesedi Nkoane and Lily Jessop-Tranter were both a little off their PBs with 5.05.02 and 5.07.00 respectively. Race 5 This one saw four evenly matched Chiltern athletes running well. Senior Woman Hannah Wardley ran 4.52.19, a tenth outside her best set earlier this season. Callum Powell (U15) ran a PB of 4.55.81, U13 Tom Ford ran 4.57.28 and U15 Frankie Baxter ran 4.58.56, both slightly outside their season’s bests. Race 6 A close race saw great PBs from U15 Max Baxter (4.42.82), U17 Maddie Hughes (4.44.78) and U15 Alex Hughes (4.45.52). Race 7 U17 Henry Webb ran well for third in 4.36.42, a second outside his best. Race 9 Three strong runs from Chiltern males in this one which saw a win for U20 Jamie Carruthers in a new best of 4.23.14. U17 Sammy Bennetts ran well for a PB of 4.27.13 and Vet 40 Tom Dixon made his 1500m debut with 4.30.50. Race 10 Senior Man Aran Davidson was well below his usual long race distance but ran well for a new PB of 4.14.89. Race 12 In-form U17 Oakley Denson, fresh from an SEAA 800m win at the weekend, ran a superb race to smash his PB and log a strong time of 4.02.69. With Summer holidays in full swing (could somebody tell the weather!) it’s a relatively quiet Race report this weekend. A huge well done is due to Ed Wright, who took part in the Shere Trail Marathon (42k) yesterday, Saturday 21 August, completing it in 4.49.05. Meanwhile, in parkrun news, yesterday saw first place finishes for Neil Turner (18.22 at Wycombe Rye) and Ross Jarman (17.18 at South Shields, a new all-time PB). Henley saw a Hughes-Baxter extravaganza, with Nick Hughes leading the family and the race home to win in 19.26 (bagging his 50th parkrun in the process). Max Baxter was second in 19.55, just pipping cousin Alex Hughes in 19.56 (3rd). Maddie Hughes was first female in 20.34, with cousin Frankie second in 21.35. Finally, there were all-out parkrun PBs for Katie Royals (21.22 at Ricky) and Felix Danielli (21.15 at Hunstanton), and course PBs for William Mayhew (23.56 at Ricky) and Chris Lower (21.05 at Gadebridge.)
