The East Central Regional Round of the English Schools Cross Country Cup took place at The Perse School near Cambridge on Friday.
Thirty-six Chiltern athletes were running, representing their schools. Each school was hoping to get a top-three place and therefore qualify for the National Final in Newquay on December 4th. Many local schools achieved this across the six races. The courses were fast and flat around perfectly maintained playing fields. Junior Girls The Junior Girls (years 7 and 8) had a short 2.1k circuit. Although Chesham Grammar won the Bucks county round, it was DCHS amongst the local schools who made the final in a closely contested race. Evelyn Wildman (DCHS) was first Chiltern girl in 13th. Also doing well were Issy Robinson (Chesham) 14th, Lydia Cross (DCHS) 28th, Megan Lockwood (Chesham) 29th, and Keya Kara (DCHS) 31st. DCHS were second on 77 points, Chesham 6th on 104. Junior Boys Zach Cleary (Aylesbury Grammar) was the only Chiltern athlete in this one, and did well finishing 15th on a 2.7k route Aylesbury Grammar came second. Intermediate Girls Fourth-placed Lesedi Nkoane led home the DCHS team that came second on the same course as the Junior Boys. Frankie Baxter was 7th and Rebecca Lawson 32nd. Sofia Lomas in 10th, Jo Snelling 20th and Macie Woodward 26th were in the Wycombe High team that came third. Intermediate Boys Chiltern runners excelled in this race with Alden Collier (RGS Wycombe) winning, Archie Pinder (Chesham) second, and Euan Pinder (Chesham) third on a 4.3k route. Also doing well were Isaac Jessop-Tranter (DCGS) 7th, Daniel Munn (DCGS) 8th, Alex Hughes (DCGS) 9th, Max Baxter (DCGS) 12th, Ethan McCall (DCGS) 13th Rowan Gawne (RGS) 16th, Max Roughton (RGS) 31st, and Callum Powell (Chesham) 44th. Senior Girls On a 3.2k circuit an all-Chiltern DCHS team did enough to gain victory in this courtesy of Maddie Hughes (2nd), Holly Henderson (5th), Abbie Henderson (8th), Alice Brown (14th), Olivia Edwards (15th), and Hannah Ashby (17th). Senior Boys DCGS had to give way to an excellent Abingdon team over a testing 5.4k, but were a strong second thanks to Thomas Redmond (3rd), Oakley Denson (8th), Finn O’Brien (10th), Luke Martin (11th), and Ben Jackson (13th). Also running well were Jerry Anderson (RGS) 19th and Laurie Gawne (RGS) 21st. In the London North Regional Round Tom Emery was 17th and his Harrow School team came second. There will be around thirty Chiltern athletes in action at the Schools Cup Final at Newquay on December 4th. Comments are closed.
