Several young Chiltern Harriers were taking part for their schools in the English Schools Track and Field Cup at Hillingdon on Tuesday.
In normal years a county round leads to regional finals and a national final, but due to covid, this year sees just county rounds only. The age groups cross normal boundaries: so Juniors are years 7 and 8 (second year U13s and first year U15s), whilst Intermediates are years 9 and 10 (second year U15s and first year U17s). This meant some interesting match ups took place. There were many excellent performances and, as athletes are required to tackle a track event and a field event, several athletes gained good experience in events that they don’t normally attempt. The scoring features a decathlon style scoring system so level of performance more important than finishing position.
