Race report 24 - 25 February: parkrun, Battersea and London Winter 10ks, and Half Marathon action25/2/2024
Good Evening, Race Report fans. I hope you kept your feet dry this weekend, although I fear that may be very unlikely. Thank you to all who joined in with the Food Bank Run at training on Tuesday evening. With our friends from ‘Welcome to Running’, we collected 200kg of donations for the Chiltern Food Bank - a great achievement. A special thanks to Julia Aliaj for organising, ably assisted by Beth Lang (photography) and Lindsey Ben (logistics). Despite the wet conditions, it’s been a good weekend of racing for Chiltern Harriers. We’ll kick things off with parkrun. Sam Ditty did brilliantly well to earn himself an all-time PB at Black Park, in a time of 20.11. Meanwhile, Alan Crozier came away from Church Mead (which must have been flooded) with a course PB of 21.49, followed swiftly by Richard Quantrill who matched his course PB of 21.51. At Rickmansworth Glen Martin celebrated his 100th parkrun in a time of 23.23, and with tasty baklava and, while not an official milestone, I think a shout-out must be due to Matt Robins, who finished his 400th at Cassiobury Park in 23.55. In London, Aran Davidson was in action in the Battersea Park 10k yesterday, finishing in a blistering 33.57. Staying with the 10k theme, James Turner was first in his age category at today’s London Winter Run (36.52) and Finola Watkins had a good run in one of the Bath ‘Two Tunnels’ series, clocking a strava time of 44.55 for the Return 10k. Finally, there was also half marathon action today. In the Wokingham Half John Brereton finished in 1.29.06, Kingsley Nanton - 1.34.50. Meanwhile, down on the coast Chris Tod clocked a time of 1.32.46 for the Brighton Half Marathon, joined swiftly by Patrick Barrett in 1.35.16. A quick note about the TCS London Marathon MyWay: register up to 5 weeks before marathon day, and the complete 26.2 miles wherever you please on 21 April to earn both a London Marathon finishers’ medal and t-shirt. Local charity the Florence Nightingale Hospice would be delighted if you would choose to raise money for them along the way. COMING UP LOCALLY: Humanity Direct Amersham Ultra, Berko Half Marathon, the next of the Mornington Chasers Regents Park 10k series, the Club AGM, the UK Inter Counties Cross Country champs, the English Schools’ Cross Country champs, Goring 10k and the MK Festival of Running. Check out more on these events and others on the Club Calendar. … in fact, you’ll notice that the Club Calendar is starting to look a bit different! With thanks to the Club’s communications sub-committee, details of training are now being added to the Calendar to make it your one-stop-shop for all that is going on, from races, to socials to Club management information.
