Well, there certainly aren’t any April Fools amongst Chiltern Harriers. A great long weekend’s worth of results to report as we move into British Summer Time and the start of track training season for many of us. On which note, can I make a small plug for the Club Calendar. With huge thanks to the coaches and run organisers, this has now been updated to provide a one-stop shop for details of training and racing. So please ‘favourite it’ on your preferred browser and use it to find out what is going on in the Club. And so, to racing: being the Easter weekend, things kicked off early on Good Friday, 29 March. In St Alban’s Katie Royals and Kingsley Nanton were in action in the St Albans Easter 10k, clocking times of 43.07 and 44.03, respectively. Meanwhile, in Maidenhead Michael ‘Tiny’ Turney led the continent of Harriers home in the Maidenhead Easter 10 (mile) event in a time of 1.02.14, joined swiftly by Steve Emery (1.09.18) and Tony Dawson (1.19.09).
On Saturday 30 March there were no less than four parkrun first-placed finishers. Oliver Jackson came home with a course PB at Black Park (16.44), as did Aidan Suleyman in Century City, South Africa (16.57). At Church Mead Abi Askey clocked a time of 26.06, and Sylvia Moss ran 25.38 at Stockley Country Park. Meanwhile, Neil and Jack Turner ran at the Kew Gardens 10k. It was Jack’s first 10k race and he ran strongly to finish as the first U18 in a time of 37.38. Neil was 2nd V50 in a PB time of 36.31. The pair would fully recommend the event: a beautiful, windy run around Kew Gardens - flat, tarmac most of the way, making it a fast course barring some tight turns. Finally, moving on to today and the Beaconsfield 5 (mile) trail event from neighbouring Club Turnham Joggers. New Harrier Russell Vandenbrekel led the pack home and took the V40 prize in a time of 32.27. He was joined swiftly by Alistair Melville-Smith, 2nd V40 in 33.20. Making up the CHAC contingent were: Ben Hannen (38.39); Jenny Bizley (39.37); Harriet Lemon (48.22); Chris Pitkin (48.59); Dave Saul (50.11) and Philip Lewis (1.02.02). In other news: the Club is on the lookout for a Welfare Officer. It would be great to have a male, who would complement Katie Royals, the other Welfare Officer in post, but applications welcomed from anyone. The role is not labour-intensive and Katie would be happy to chat to anyone about what it entails. If you’re interested, please contact Trevor Davies on [email protected]. DON’T FORGET to book your tickets for this year’s Social & Awards evening on 18 May. We’d love to see as many of you as possible for what promises to be a really enjoyable occasion. Visit this page to find out more and book your tickets. COMING UP LOCALLY: Brighton Marathon, the White Horse Half Marathon, Flitwick 10k, Manchester Marathon, Reading Half Marathon, Last Friday of the Month 5k, BUCS Track & Field Championships, the first Youth Development League and Watford and Oxford City Open Graded matches of 2024 and, of course, the London Marathon. Check out more on these events and others on the Club Calendar. PS. Apologies. Inexplicably, I still can't upload photos to these blog posts :-( Comments are closed.
