Welcome to February, Race Report fans! This reporter can already smell Spring in the air, and is absolutely delighted.
As promised, we’ll kick things off with a few parkrun results from last weekend, Saturday 29 January. There were first placed finishes for Sue Elliott (22.56 at South Oxhey) and Yours Truly (21.56 at Wendover Woods), plus a course PB for Javid Khan (20.11 at Houghton Hall).
Moving on to this weekend, at parkrun yesterday Christine Taylor bettered last week’s course PB at Wycombe Rye, in a time of 22.56. There were also course PBs for: Claire Dickinson (25.49 at Black Park); and Sue Elliot and Sylvia Moss (20.27 and 23.11, respectively, at South Oxhey). Alex Shelley earned an overall parkrun PB at the place where it all began, Bushy, in 18.40. Lean Ni Chiobhain, Neil Walker and Katie Royals also ran away with all-time PBs of 20.23, 19.26 and 20.40, respectively, at Marlay (Ireland), Rickmansworth and Tooting Common. Last, but by no means least, Ali Young was first female at Rickmansworth in 19.39.
It was marathon number 7 of 12 for Rashi Wanninayake on 5 February, which she completed in 4.54, raising money for Chilterns Samaritans - https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/rash12in12 . And if that wasn’t quite enough for one day, Hywel Thomas took on the two-day Pilgrim Challenge by XNRG, completing 66 miles of the North Downs Day over two days, in 11.40.27. He took away 3rd in his age category for the efforts.
Finally, today saw the first of the pre-Spring-marathon halfs - the Watford Half Marathon. There were brilliant runs by Harriers: Matt Channer (1.41.21); Mairead O’Rourke (1.35.12); David Saul (1.56.48); Dominic Schulte (1.50.21); Adam Shute (1.19.39); Mike ‘Tiny’ Turney (1.30.47); John Walker (2.15.10) and Ed Wright (1.36.51).
Meanwhile our very own Aran and Laura welcomed beautiful baby Florence to the world. Huge congratulations from Chiltern Harriers AC. We can’t wait to meet her xx
