Well, after a few quieter weeks of racing, it’s great to be able to regale you with a few more trials, tribulations and truly special successes this week. I’ll kick things off with parkrun results from yesterday, Saturday 4 November. There were first places for Oliver Jackson (17.16 at Black Park), Kate Loach (22.45 at Littleport) and Yours Truly (24.53 at a very sparsely-populated Church Mead). Meanwhile, there were course PBs for Seb Lawrence (20.50 at Heslington), Lizzie Barraclough (23.26 at Clapham Common) and Ella Watson (25.43 at University Parks). Up in Mansfield, Harriers had some speedy contenders in the national cross-country relays. The U17 team of Alex Hughes, Isaac Jessop-Tranter and Euan Pinder were 11th overall over the 3 x 3k route, with leg times of 9.27, 10.00 and 9.55, respectively. Meanwhile, while not a full team, Richard Slade and Simon Bossi had bostin’ runs in the senior race (a 5k circuit) with times of 15.10 and 16.38. Jennifer Webb was also in action in the Derwentwater 10 mile yesterday, clocking a strava time of 1.41.13. Moving on to today, Sunday 5 November, Kate Paxton braved the hills (and mud) of the Wendover Woods 10k, finishing in a strava time of 58.29. Joining her on the trails was Tony Dawson in the ‘Frankenstein’ - the trail race sitting alongside the Marlow Half and 7 - in a time of 51.32. Philip Lewis completed the Marlow 7 in 1.31.47. Finally, it was ‘graduation day’ for a number of those who have been taking part in Roger Ellerby’s half marathon training group (and admittedly ‘race day’ for some others). At Knebworth House James Turner led Harriers home in the Hertfordshire Half in a time of 1.27.00. He was joined by wife Lindsay in a time of 1.50.04, Beth Lang (also in 1.50.04!) and Julia Aliaj (1.57.07, despite having been unwell). Over in Marlow, Alistair Melville-Smith finished in 1.27.01, followed by Phil Lovelace (1.41.08), Giles Greenhalgh (1.45.45) and Jonathan Coutts (1.56.30). Well done everyone! COMING UP LOCALLY (because I got round to updating the Club Calendar): XNRG’s Druid’s Challenge, the second and third Chiltern League match of the season, Bierton 5k and 10k, Rugged Radnage and Watford Autumn 10ks, Last Friday of the Month 5k and the Mornington Chasers’ Regents Park 10k. Check out the Club Calendar for more details of these races and more.
