SIAB Cross Country Maddie Hughes in the Intermediate Girls and Alden Collier in the Intermediate Boys were representing England Schools at the SIAB International at Carmarthen on Saturday. The match features eight runners from England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland and is for the Junior and Intermediate age groups. On a fast course Maddie had a good run to be ninth, and seventh England runner in a field of over thirty. Alden suffered with a stomach muscle problem and finished 31st in his race. Both get to keep their England kit from this prestigious high level event. National Primary Schools Cross Country There were two Chiltern winners at this event which has races for years 5, 6 and 7, and features teams from all over the country. The meeting was held at Market Harborough in Leicestershire. The Bucks Swans team was organised by our own Becky McCall and the county did very well. Kara Gorman won the Year 6 Girls race comfortably after a poor start and Tom Ford, running for Herts, won the Year 7 Boys race. There were several other Chiltern runners taking part over a simple, flattish course in lovely spring sunshine. The Year 6 Girls also featured good runs by Maya Davis (7th), Nia Clarke (23rd), and Carys Jones (79th). There were 149 finishers in total. There were 138 runners in the Year 6 Boys race in which Jacob McCall was 51st, Luke Coultate 80th and Isaac McCall 82nd. Unlike Kara, Tom Ford had the closest of battles, sharing the same time as the his fast-finishing rival and being awarded joint first, both well ahead of third. Also for Herts Jack Martin ran well to be 15th. Charlie Quantrill was 33rd running for Bucks Swans with Hugo Mundy 51st and George Mawby 91st. The Bucks Swans lads were silver medallists. Evelyn Wildman was 38th in the Year 7 Girls race, third Bucks Swans girl home. The Team were an excellent third. Albert Rushton was Chiltern’s only runner in the Year 5 Boys race in 125th place.
