The Wycombe and Chiltern composite team got off to a flying start at the first Southern Athletics League match at Eton on Saturday. The rebranded team (formerly ‘South Bucks’) were taking part in their first match in Division 1 after promotion last year. The four matches work on a round robin basis and this match featured Harrow, Windsor, Thames Valley, Bracknell and Medway & Maidstone. In a very high quality fixture, the team finished an excellent fourth from the six teams involved. Kieran Shah and Harrison Sears scored well in 100m and 200m and Tom Jordan and Isaac Jessop-Tranter ran 400m with a PB for Isaac of 52.95 in B string. The middle distance saw great results for the team with Euan Pinder and Isaac Jessop-Tranter scoring a double win in 800m. In 1500m Archie Pinder was second in the A string, and Simon Bossi won the B string. The 5000m saw a strong Wycombe and Chiltern presence with an A string win for David Clark (15.30) and a B string win for Ollie Jackson (15.40). The team also had several non-scorers with Aran Davidson (15.42) third in the race proper and Liam Busby, Dean Childs and Tom Starck also having good runs. Myles Caddell had a comfortable win in 3000m steeplechase. Ryan Wells put in his usual big shift with second in 110m hurdles, second in A string triple jump, fifth in A string long jump, and fifth in A string high jump. The throws were looked after by Oliver Dorrell and Ed Morris who added 110m hurdles and 400m hurdles to his very busy programme. Ian Parkinson was third in A string pole vault with Issa Phillips-Pope winning B string. The 4 x 100m team of Kieran, Harrison, Ryan and Josh Parry were fourth and the all-Chiltern 4 x 400m team of Euan, Archie, Isaac and Leon Doran were third in a club record 3.27.09. Women Mila Luker ran A string 100m with Eva Carsberg B string. Aoife McAuley ran A string 200m and Lisa Fitzpatrick B string. Amy Hogbin was sixth in A string 400m despite running a strong PB of 59.30. Tash Taylor and Jess Orr looked after 800m and Ivy Uhart was the sole representative in 1500m. Katie Royals, Sam Usher, and Charlotte Docwra ran 3000m with Katie fourth in B string in 11.33, Sam fourth in B string in 12.07 and Charlotte running 11.42 as a non-scorer. Lisa was third in 100m hurdles and fourth in 400m hurdles. Frankie Baxter was second in A string 2000m steeplechase in a PB of 7.34.85 and Tash Taylor was second in B string. There was a great team effort in the field. Aoife and Sarah Cross looked after high jump, Mila and Aoife long jump, Caroline Parkinson and Sarah pole vault, and Lisa and Caroline triple jump. Chloe Zmuda and Aoife scored good points in shot, Chloe and Hannah Wells discus, Hannah and Genevieve Cole hammer, and Melody Ball and Amy Woolland javelin. The 4 x 100m team of Sarah, Eva, Lisa and Mila were sixth and the 4 x 400m quartet of Ivy, Frankie, Lisa and Lucy Clarke were fifth. The next match is on June 15th at Chelmsford with another batch of five other strong clubs.
