A record number of Chiltern Harriers took part for their universities at the Ronhill University of Manchester Relays at Wythenshaw Sports Ground on Saturday. On a flat but twisty 3k course, the men’s and mixed teams did six legs and women-only teams did three. Quite a few athletes completed more than one leg across several teams in this fun, informal but high quality event. George Brown ran on leg 1 for his University of Nottingham team (Flying Nottsmen) and had a superb run to finish third and retain the third-fastest time of the day – 8.56. George also did leg 3 for the Nottingham mixed team in 9.21. The Nottsmen were seventh from 56 complete teams. Will Brown also ran very well for 9.10 on leg 3, the fastest leg of the Birmingham University team Lazza’s Legends which came 13th, and 9.25 on leg 5 for the Newcomers team that came 17th.
Two Chiltern old boys were on the same team with Alex Johnson (11.29 on leg 2) and Luke Martin (11.37 on leg 6) competing in the Manchester University B team that was 45th. Bristol University also featured strongly and there were three Chilterns in the Bristol teams. Alex Aldred ran leg 3 (9.43) in the Bristol A team that came ninth, with Jamie Carruthers running 10.43 in leg 1 of the Bristol D team that was 43rd. Recent graduate Jess Orr was in a Bristol alumni team and ran 14.34 on leg 2 Comments are closed.
