Chiltern Harriers U13s and U15s got their league season going at the YDL LAG at Winchester on Sunday. In a tough league the club was seventh but there is potential to improve on that in subsequent matches with stronger turnouts.
It was a well organised meeting with electronic timing and it developed into a warm sunny afternoon.
The U15 Boys are the strongest Chiltern team this season and there were several wins and good performances. Emile Morti won A string hurdles in 13.24 with Taye Awuku-Chan winning B string in 13.65. The duo also ran well in 100 with Emile fourth in 12.44 in A string and Taye fifth in B string in a PB of 12.80. Charlie De Sousa ran a PB of 5.24.76 to be third in B string.
In the field there was a double win in high jump with Isaac Collier leading A string jumper with 1.56m and Ryan Allbrook winning B string with 1.45m. The 4 x 100m relay team of Leo, Emile, Taye and Charlie was fifth and the 4 x 300m team of Isaac, Cameron, Dylan and James sixth.
Just five U15 girls took part, but all worked hard and there were some very good efforts. Abi Masters and Isla Dalby ran PBs in 100m and both also ran well in 200m. Issy Robinson had a great run to log a PB of 44.89 in 300m and also a PB of 2.24.61 in 800m. Evelyn Wildman ran a PB of 5.06.58 to be second in A string 1500m, with Zoe Aleksandrova also in PB shape to be third in B string. Abi and Zoe looked after long jump and Issy and Evelyn high jump. Isla did shot and Zoe javelin. The 4 x 300m team of Evelyn, Isla, Abi and Issy did very well to be third in 3.11.91.
The three U13 boys on show covered as much as they could with Luke Coultate running an 800m PB of 2.26.14 to be second. Luke also helped out in hurdles and javelin. Isaac Taylor made his club league debut with good efforts in 150m, 1200m, and long jump, and Kai Burgess tackled 75m, shot and javelin.
Zoe Partridge and Holly Knott ran well in 75m and 150m, both gaining PBs in 150m. Maya Davis ran a PB of 2.33.20 to be fifth in A string 800m with Bethan Lloyd also in PB form in B string. Kara Gorman ran a great time of 3.53.06 in 1200m but was only third in a very high quality race. Bethan Lloyd and Bronwen Harman were third in A and B string 70m hurdles respectively. Zoe and Kara helped in long jump, Holly and Nia Brown tackling high jump. Maya and Bronwen threw shot and Bethan and Bronwen javelin. The 4 x 100m team of Bronwen, Kara, Maya and Bethan were sixth.
The club were not far behind clubs in fourth, fifth and sixth but the team will need more numbers to avoid relegation this campaign.
